Competition

Summer 2011

After playing competitive volleyball in European Leagues over the winter months, on the 3rd May, for the first time in nine months, the GB players will return as a team to train. Excitement is building – we can’t wait to get back into the GB mindset and be surrounded by like minded teammates.

Head Coach Audrey Cooper on the Summer schedule
We look forward to welcoming you to our games this summer, see the full schedule but just to whet your appetite, Head Coach Audrey Cooper gives you an insight into the GB Women’s 2011 Summer period, where she has secured top quality opposition both at home and on the road….

Cooper sets a tough schedule

“The team will travel to South America to play Peru, Puerto Rico and Thailand in the prestigious Latina Cup, followed by a 4 day series against Argentina (15th=, 17th, 14th & 25th in the World Rankings respectively).

In June we will host international matches at Ponds Forge & Crawley (aligned with mens Euroleague matches) against African Champions Algeria (WR 15=) and Switzerland who are preparing for the 2013 European Championships.  In July we will face a strong USA team & conclude the Summer against current World Championship Bronze medalists, Japan at Earl’s Court at the end of July.

It has been a tough 9 months but I think we will be stronger for this. We have an exciting & challenging schedule ahead which continues our competition strategy to ‘play up’ and experience all styles of volleyball to ensure the best preparation for London 2012. We will experience opposition from each Continent including the reigning African Champions. We will play against one team in the Worlds top 3, three teams in the World’s top 15,  plus two more in the World’s top 25. Having seen most of the girls in action for their pro clubs across Europe, I am looking forward to having them back & seeing them implement the experience they have gained onto the court for GB”.
