Cary Wicks awarded National Torch Trophy Trust award

Cary Wicks will receive a national award for her volunteer services

We are absolutely delighted to celebrate Cary Wicks’ contribution to our sport. Cary has been awarded a Torch Trophy Trust Award in recognition of her volunteer services to volleyball. This award is well deserved and follows on from Cary receiving the Volleyball England New Volunteer of the Year 2011-2012.

Cary is a great supporter of the team, as you may imagine with daughter Lucy as the GB setter and vice captain, however the work she has done with our Adopt An Olympian programme has been phenomenal. Over the last 2-3 years, the programme has brought about much needed funds to support the team in preparing for the Olympic Games, however the purpose of the scheme was to introduce the sport to thousands of young people through regular contact with a GB volleyball player. She took the project under her wing and has delivered it with professionalism and high quality and has really had a huge impact on more than 50 schools and our sport. For the children to share the player’s journey as a GB volleyball athlete with them has given them insight and learnings that will hopefully inspire them to participate and achieve in volleyball, sport, school or other hobbies.

Cary has also driven the GB Women’s Supporters Newsletter that is issued monthly and updates volleyball fans with news of the team, the players and staff and the sport. Again, the production and content of this newsletter is high quality and a great way to engage existing and new supporters of our sport.

The time, energy and effort that Cary has contributed to our journey is very much appreciated by the staff and players of the GB Women and we would like to take this opportunity to say thankyou and congratulations on your deserved award!

The nominations received by the Torch Trophy Trust are always of a very high standard and cover all sports within Great Britain and so it is a big honour for Cary to receive this award. Robyn Wisdom (Volleyball England Young Volunteer of the Year 2011-2012) has also been awarded a Torch Trophy Trust Award. We congratulate both recipients for well deserved awards.
