Weekend’s Preview 15/16 Oct…..

Most of the girls are in action this weekend with the Pro A league in France, the Bundesliga in Germany and the DELA league in Holland beginning their season. Here is a roundup of the upcoming matches….

DEF & Pro A, France

Carter and TFOC

Grace Carter has her season opener with Terville Florange Olympique Club (TFOC) against Béziers Volley. The newly promoted TFOC are looking to start their first season in the top league with a win!

For Quimper Volley 29 & GB’s Newton, it is the first round of the Coupe de France. Last year they had a superb run, beating Pro A team Mulhouse to reach the Semi Final. It should be a convincing win as they start their campaign against a lower division local team Concarnoe.

NLA & NLB, Switzerland

Osborne and Goulet have another busy weekend with VC Kanti Schaffhausen. On Saturday they play the home leg of the CEV Challenge Cup against Swedish Champions Engelholm. With a 3-1 win already under their belts Schaffhausen are looking for a similar result to take them through to the next round. On Sunday they have a tough league encounter versus Sagres Nuc who finished 2nd last season.

VBC Cossonay have got off to a good start in the season but Jenn Thom is expecting a tougher game this weekend. They hope to continue their winning streak when they play Greenwatt Val-de-Travers on Saturday.

On Sunday Volley Köniz play VBC Biel-Bienne, a team Maria Bertelli is confident they will beat if they are focused and bring their own game.

Bundesliga, Germany

Wicks & Michel with Alemannia Aachen

In Germany it’s the first weekend of the Bundesliga.  Wicks and Michel will travel with Alemannia Aachen to Vilsbiburg for their first game against last year’s Champions. Ci Michel reports “Lucy and I are coming off a surprisingly successful season last year in Aachen, so I am really excited to see what we can bring this year with more experience, new teammates and a renewed motivation to win”. The game can be viewed live online on Saturday 7pm UK time www.vib24.tv.

Bragg has signed with rivals Aurbis Hamburg and they have a tough start away to USC Munster on Sunday. Read newspaper article in the Hamburger Abendblatt on Bragg.

DELA League, Holland

The Dutch league also starts this weekend where Jen Taylor and Jo Morgan are playing for TFM/DOK Dwingeloo. Jen Taylor comments “We can’t wait to kick off the season against Apeldoorn Dynamo this coming sat…after 9 weeks preseason we are ready to start our campaign with the goal to reach the playoffs.”

I Liga Kobiet, Poland

Rachel Laybourne and her team Silesia Volley are still looking for their first win of the season. They play away to SMS PZPS I Sosnowiec who are yet to pick up any points this season.

O’Connor’s team Pieksämäki Volley face OrPo away. It will be a tough game with both teams undefeated so far.

Eres Divisie, Belgium

Gea Happel Amigos Zoersel  are away to VDK Gent Dames. Vicky Palmer is hoping her team will pull out all the stops and get their first win of the season.

In America Lizzie Reid and the University of Georgia are looking to continue their winning streak. They play LSU on Friday night.

Check back later to hear Wicks and Carters thoughts on their upcoming season and come back on Monday to see a round up of results and comments direct from the players.
